substance abuse prevention: hugo's testimonial

One week with users who did not use, participating in workshops lead by Dianova’s staff, allowed us to think why we use drugs and to understand the situations that put us at risk

mvma remise des diplômesThis is my testimonial of the fantastic program « Empowering My Life! ».  After two experiences, the first time as a participant and now as a peer support, I have seen many positive aspects to this program.

Five days of relief from our stress and using drugs.  With the help and guidance of Dianova’s residents and staff, that’s five days out of our misery, relaxing and reflecting about our use of drugs, situations that put us at risk, as well as the impact that drugs and alcohol have on the different levels of our lives whether it be professional, medical, economic, social, family, friends or emotional.

This program is unique because it also offers many activities that we do not necessarily think of doing and, in many cases, discovering a passion such as flying, horseback-riding and Laser Quest.  Thus, there are more things to see than we normally experience.  And since the participants cannot escape into drugs, they have no choice but to face reality and drop their masks.

activités du programme "ma vie j'en fais mon affaire"Living with a group promotes exchange and despite some inevitable difficulties among participants, communication is essential and very beneficial.  Finally, I would say that « Empowering My Life! » helped me look at my abuse and to be more cautious.  I no longer consume hallucinogenic drugs, which were my drug of choice, my alcohol consumption has decreased and I plan to stop smoking cannabis after this second experience.
This program is a success as a result of its originality and seriousness.
